Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe and Transfer to Bwindi

The enriched 3-day Uganda Gorilla Trek begins on arrival at Entebbe International Airport. Upon landing, you will be received by your guide, who will accompany you throughout the tour. A picturesque road drive from Entebbe to southwestern Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is next. This scenic route to Bwindi also has picturesque hills and villages dotted throughout the countryside, which makes it a pleasure to see.

When you arrive at Bwindi, check in to your accommodation, which can range from comfortable to luxurious lodges. Most lodges and camps in Bwindi are strategically situated in proximity to the forest to afford a true forest experience. You can be assured to find a warm environment with comfortable facilities in which to rest and prepare for the amazing days ahead.

The evening is spent at leisure, perhaps resting with one or two words to the serene environment, a good dinner, getting ready for the night’s adventure. You may also wish to stretch your legs with a short walk around the lodge to enjoy the cool mountain air and the sounds of the forest.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Adventure

Your second day is packed, boasting adventures of tracking the gorillas. After an early morning hearty breakfast at the lodge, you will be ready for a physically demanding day. After breakfast, you are briefed on what to expect at a gorilla trekking briefing. The briefing prepares the trekkers to learn about gorillas and their habitat; set out clear and realistic trekking rules and regulations. You need to pay special attention to these instructions; it only goes to ensure safety for the gorillas and you.

When the briefing is completed, you will be assigned to a particular gorilla family group to visit. These groups, having been habituated, have grown accustomed to human presence after extended contact, thus allowing you to observe them at a pretty safe distance to avoid undue stress.

Guided by a ranger, you start to trek through the deep and thick forests of Bwindi. Length and difficulty among treks vary depending on the location of the designated gorilla family on that particular day. These treks could range from short to long, making them a little harder, and in some instances, they can be tough, given the terrain and distance. No matter what the difficulties, you are carried along the wonderful scenery of the ancient forest.

Your guide on the way will let you encounter easier game on your way; like some other different wildlife habitating there in the park and birds. Keep your eyes and ears eclectically open for calls of different animals moving about and melodious songs of birds.

Once your group has spotted the gorillas, you will spend an unforgettable hour with the miraculous beasts. Observing these magnificent animals in their natural habitat is a lifetime experience. You’ll be able to watch their daily activities, such as feeding, grooming, and playing. Also, it’s a wonderful opportunity to take photographs of the gorillas, so be sure to have all your cameras in order.

After this unforgettable encounter with the gorillas, you will start making your journey back to the starting point of your trek. A descent can be equally difficult as an ascent in many cases; hence, do remember to take your time and follow your guide’s instructions.

At the lodge, freshen up and unwind after a tiring day. You may be given an option of visiting the nearby Batwa pygmy community. This cultural experience gives one a perspective on the traditional and native way of life of these great people who have lived in the forest for centuries.

Day 3: Departure

On the very last day of the Uganda Gorilla Trek, it is time to bid farewell to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and head back to Entebbe. After breakfast and checking out of your lodge will begin your journey back, retracing the scenic route through the countryside.

During the ride, if you’d like, there may be an opportunity to pose for a picture at the equator. The equator describes an imaginary line around the Earth, giving equal weight to both the northern and southern hemispheres. Straddling a line like this is a fun and memorable experience.

As you continue along the drive back, think of all the experiences of that wonderful adventure you have had-from pristine forests and assorted wildlife to the life-changing experience of the mountain gorillas. During the return to Entebbe, it will give you the chance to converse with your guide over the events of such a wonderful day, thereby enhancing your understanding of culture, nature, and conservation work going on in Uganda.

Arrive back in Entebbe, where your guide will drop you off at your lodging or the airport, depending on your departure plans. The Uganda 3-day Gorilla Trek experience will leave you to treasure its unforgotten memories and esteem for its worth and preservation of this beautiful ecosystem and its extraordinary inhabitants.
